Celebrating over 65 years in business, on Friday September 20th the fluid engineering consultancy BHR Group hosted a celebratory Showcase to highlight what it is doing now and in the future for the local community, for British engineering and for its network of global clients.  It was an opportunity for local dignitaries, schools, engineering associations, past employees and key clients to come together and celebrate past, present and future.

 

Hosted by management and senior staff, guests from the local business community, clients, staff from local schools, members of technical Associations, senior academics from Cranfield University, an MEP, Mayors, Councillors and civic leaders, were all encouraged to inspect some of the pioneering technologies developed at BHR Group and tour its extensive Laboratory facilities.

Demonstrating its commitment to all aspects of the valve and restrained fluid industry, today BHR Group announced it has signed up to become a member of the British Valve and Actuator Association (BVAA).

BHR Group, the independent contract research, technology and product development organisation, today announced the first of its residential specialised fluid engineering courses, “Fundamentals of Rheology”, 29th-30th May, Cranfield, Bedfordshire.



This course will be of interest to those in industry who have responsibility for product formulation, or quality and process control, and working in the areas of product formulation and process plant design, selection and operation.



This course aims to provide an understanding of the rheological properties of a wide range of fluid types, including: high viscosity liquids, slurries, pastes, emulsions, polymer solutions and melts.  The properties to be explored include viscosity and yield stress, as well as complex viscosity, extensional viscosity, normal stress, and other viscoelastic properties.  The course will provide details of the various methods to measure many of these properties.

Dr Waldemar “Waldek” Bujalski, who has been very well known in the fluid mixing community, has recently passed away. He died peacefully in hospital surrounded by his family on the 30th of January 2013 of pleural mesothelioma. Many FMP Members are familiar with his work and knew him personally. Dr Bujalski was Head of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells and manager of the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Project and a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham in the UK. He graduated from Technical University of Sczcecin in Poland in 1977 with a degree in chemical engineering and then obtained a PhD in Fluid Mixing in 1987 from the University of Birmingham, where he worked with Prof. Alvin Nienow. He had more than 30 years’ experience in single and multi-phase mixing in stirred vessels for a variety of applications including reactors and bioreactors in chemical, pharmaceutical and process industries. His interests included fuel and hydrogen cells, CFD simulations, laser-based measurement techniques for fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer and fermentation technology. ...

BHR Group success at 14th European Conference on Mixing

The 14th European Conferences on Mixing organised under the auspices of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE Event number 711) was held in Warsaw on 10-13 September 2012, hosted by the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology and chaired by Professor Jerzy Baldyga.

The European Conference on Mixing series, held every three years, brings together the global scientific community working in all areas relating to mixing.  The 14th of these series held in Warsaw, Poland, on 10-13 September was no exception to this.  127 delegates from 21 countries attended the event.

According to the conference website (http://mixing14.eu), the conference provided a forum for presentations and interesting debates on the latest advances in theory and practice of mixing. Conference sessions were on fluid mechanical fundamentals of mixing processes, chemically reactive flows and precipitation, single- and multi-phase mixing, mixing of complex fluids, suspensions and dispersions, mixing in process intensification, mixing in biotechnological applications, and advances in numerical simulation of mixing.
